A fort (Durga in Kannada) is
located close to the settlement of Kabbal at the top of a hill. The Hindu deity
Kabbal Durga is located in the village of Kabbalu, and since this is a
prominent Hindu temple serving about 28 villages in the region, Kabbalamma came
to be identified as well. Shree Kabbalamma Temple was built using granite
stones and faces east. This temple, which is constructed in the Dravidian
architectural style, is notable for its gopuras. The sanctum's front hall
pillars are decorated with floral motifs and figurines of gods at their bases.
This temple's main entrance is occupied by a sizable mandapa (Porch) with
pillars. It has a unique covered mandapa and gorgeous stone art on the
pillars.
According to the legends, Goddess Kabbalamma was in search of a place to reside. She reached the village of Kabbalu. Goddess Kabbalamma took the permission of Basaveshwara and resided in
the village. All the important first pujas are first performed to Basaveswara
and then to Goddess Kabbalamma. During British rule, offenders were
punished by pushing them from the top of the hill so that they offenders will die
