Sri Nettikanti Anjaneya Swamy Temple - Kasapuram
Nettikanti Anjaneya Swamy is
the main deity of this temple.
The Idol sees South with his
face directed towards East so he is also known as Poorvabhimukhi. The Lord
looks as if he is ready to rescue and that is evident by his “Abhayahasta”. He
wears “Kaupeena”.
On his left hand, his
Abhayahasta is placed firmly on his waist. In his right hand, he has a club that
he uses to simultaneously crush various Idols that are evil spirits.
The Lord is projected in an
inimitable style and measures 10 feet in height.
As Anjaneya Swamy sees his
devotees with his right eye, this place got its name as "Nettikanti".
Sri Nettikanti Anjaneya Swamy Temple is facing in the East direction. This temple
has 5 tier Rajagopuram and Dwaja Stambham is placed inside the Gopuram.
During the rule of Sri Krishna
Devaraya, Emperor of Vijayanagaram Kingdom, his Guru Sri Vyasarayaluvaru went
traveling to get religious austerities. On his tour, he stayed at “Silpagiri”
village (Presently known as “Chippagiri”). Lord Sri Anjaneya Swamy came before
Sri Vyasaraya in his dream. He advised him to reinstall his idol at the same
spot where the withered Margosa (Neem) tree would have fresh new leaves when he
touches the tree. Accordingly, Sri Vyasarayalu Varu reinstalled or made
prathista the idol of Sri Anjaneya Swamy (Swayambhu) in Nettikallu at the spot
where he saw the withered Margosa tree that had emerged as a live tree. The
newly reinstalled deity was named “Nettikanti Anjaneya Swamy”. Thus, Sri
Nettikanti Anjaneya Swamy Temle, Kasapuram temple was made.
