Sri Veeraraghava Swamy Temple - Tiruvallur.

Sri Veeraraghava Swamy temple is located at Thiruvallur town, in Tamilnadu State. It is one of the 108 Divyadesam temples and part of Tondai naadu divyadesams.

Veeraraghava Perumal is the Incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Evvul Kathan and Vaidya Veeraraghavan, this posture is called by the Sanskrit term Bhujangashayana. Lord here facing East and reclining form is 15 feet long.

Lord is in a reclining form on a five feet peeta. His right hand blesses the sage Salihotra and his left hand in Gnana mudra preaches to Brahma. The left hand of the Supreme Lord is bent at the elbow and stretched upwards towards Brahma who emanates from his navel. It is very interesting to note that in this temple, the Supreme Lord wears only checked clothes as Salihotra Maharishi had originally offered this to him as a bark garment. Salihotra, Brahmas are along with the main deity. The idol here was not chiseled by any sculpture but was found of its own (swayambhu).

Mother is called Kanakavalli / Vasumathi / Lakshmi Devi. She is consort of the Lord Veeraraghava. Her shrine is located parallel to the sanctum and facing East direction.

There is a large tank on the south side of the temple, covering seven acres approximately.

It is one of the 108 Divyadesam and also the 21st temple in Thondainadu and is praised in verses by two of the twelve alwars.

It is one of the important divyadesam in the Thondai Mandalam region.

Veeraraghava Perumal is known as "Vaithiya Veeraraghavan" since he can heal illnesses.

The Temple was constructed in the Dravidian architectural style and faces east. The temple has a Raja gopuram with five levels. Vijayakoti Vimana is the name of the Vimana tower that stands above the sanctum sanctorum. In front of the temple, a Dhwaja Stambham stands majestously.

An older mandapam with five-tiered, monolithic granite pillars that are tall and adorned with carvings of numerous gods, including Lord Krishna and Hanuman, and a more modern mandapam just in front. One of the walls in this room is clearly sculpted with the Royal Emblem of the imperial house of Vijayanagar, which is a boar with a sword in front and the Sun and Moon above.
