Sree Mahakali Temple – Chandrapur
Shree Mahakali Temple is
located in Chandrapur city of Maharashtra State.
The primary deity in this
temple is Mahakali Mata. Two idols (murtis) can be found in the Mahakali
Mandir. The main idol is a single-standing murthy covered in red, yellow, and
orange fabrics. Shiv Linga is connected to the primary idol. The
second idol is below the ground level and to reach there, devotes need to walk
in a tunnel.
It houses two idols of
the goddess in the sanctum. One idol displays the fierce form of the goddess,
whereas, the second form depicts a calm mood. The second idol is placed in a
reclining position and the goddess sleeps.
It also houses a
beautiful painting of the goddess that is said to be over 300 years old but
still appears to be a fresh painting.
The sculptures on the
walls of Mahakali temple were an outstanding blend of Tibetan and Hindu traditions,
there are few steps. This temple has an entrance arch and Here idol is adorned
in red yellow and orange clothes and is in association with the Shiva Linga. To reach the second idol in a reclining position, one must travel through a tunnel because it is below ground level. There are two
entrances to the temple premises, the front entrance has the Ganesha and
Hanuman temples, and near the rear entrance, there is a Shani temple.
This temple was built in the 16th century.
It is usually crowded by pilgrims during April, particularly on the eve of Hanuman Jayanti. Annual festival held in April and lakhs of people flock to the temple on this occasion. Worshippers may have to queue up outside the temple for as long as four to five hours.
