Narmadeshwar Mahadev Temple: Largest Shivalinga of Central India

The Shivling enshrined in the Narmadeshwar Mahadev under the MR-10 bridge of Indore is also believed to be the biggest Shivling in Central India.

This Shivalinga is also called Banalinga. Since it is a Shivling with special qualities found on the banks of the holy Narmada river, hence its name is Narmada Shivling and the name Narmadeshwar Shivling is more popular than Banling.

About 8 years ago, it took 11 hours and two cranes to lower this black and beautiful Narmadeshwar Shivalinga during its installation.

Those who constructed the temple say that the Shivalinga was brought from Bakava village near Sanavad. The huge and black colored Shivalinga has been taken out from the Narmada River. Therefore, this makes it a natural Shivalinga.

Bhasma Aarti of Lord Shiva is performed every morning at 6 am. The consecration of the Lord is done from 4 o'clock in the evening. Due to the height of Shivling, a motor has been placed here for anointing it with water. The makeup of the Shivalinga is also done by using a ladder to reach the top of the Shivlinga.

There is a rush of devotees for darshan particularly on the occasion of Mahashivratri and all the Mondays of the Shravan month.

Special preparations are also being made in the temple for the upcoming Mahashivratri celebrations this week.
