Sri Abimukeswarar Temple – Kumbakonam

 

Sri Abimukeswarar Temple is located in Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district of Tamilnadu

Here Lord Shiva is worshipped as Abimukeswarar and his consort Parvati devi as Amrithavalli

Lord Shiva turned around, while Nava Kanniyar river goddess came there, enabling them to give darshan

This temple is around 1000 years old

It is one of the 12 Shiva temples connected with the Mahamaham festival, which occurs in Kumbakonam every 12 years.

It is located on the eastern bank of the Mahamaham tank

The Sacred tree of this temple is Gooseberry

Shani Bhagawan is taller than the other 8 Navagraha planets in this temple.

This is the only Tamilnadu temple with a tall Lord Bhairava idol.

The ten-day festival is celebrated during Magi Masam.
