Lord Shiva Importance
- Shiva means “auspicious one”.
- Lord Shiva is usually worshipped in the form of Shiva Linga.
- The followers of Lord Shiva are called Shaivites or Shaivas
- Lord Shiva wears a deer skin, he has a trident on his right hand, he wears serpents as ornaments. He wears a garland of skulls.
- Rudra refers to Lord Shiva. Aksha refers to the eye of rudra. This is emanated from the eye of Lord Shiva when he burnt the Tripura Asuras.
- This is one the holy symbols worn by devotees along with the holy ash.
- Lord Shiva wears serpent as garland . This denotes his wisdom and Charity.
- He sits on the tiger skin symbolizes that he has conquered lust.
- Lord Shiva is depicted with a third eye with which he burnt Kamadeva. The third eye depicts the eye of Knowledge
- Lord Shiva bears a crescent moon on his head, so he is called as Chandrasekhara. The moon symbolizes the cycle through which the creation evolves.
- He drank the poison evolved from the milky ocean, so his throat turned blue due to poison. For this he is called as Neelakanta.
- He smears bhasma or ashes on his body. Ashes are left over after the diverse names and forms disappear.
- Bull represents Dharma Devatha.Lord Shiva rides Bull. The significance is that Lord Shiva is protector of Dharma.
