Do’s and Dont’s during Dhanurmasam

 


Dhanurmasam is an auspicious month, it is believed that Lord Vishnu begins his day and open his eyes listening to Tiruppavai Pasuras. In dhanurmasam almost in all Vishnu temples Tiruppavai is read in the place of Suprabhatham. It is said that one day of dhanurmasa pooja is equal to 1000 years of daily pooja.


Nama Sankirthanam is prescribed for Kaliyuga and this is Special during this month.


Do’s

  • Must wake up during Brahmamuhurtham
  • Have a bath at home or in river.
  • Completely surrender to Lord Vishnu
  • Offer flowers to Lord Vishnu
  • Must read Tiruppavai, Vishnu Sahasranamam, Lalitha Sahasranamam, Purusha Sooktham, Narayana Suktham.
  • Decorate house with flowers and Rangoli.
  • Visit Lord Vishnu Temples
  • Ladies can perform Margali Nomu or Katyayani Vrat for their wishes come true.
  • Sweet Pongal, Khara Pongal, Puliogare.. etc are offered as Prasadam.

Dont’s

  • Marriages and Gruha Pravesham are not performed
  • Hair cutting is avoided during this month.
