Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy Temple - Appalayagunta




Appalayagunta Temple is the abode of Lord Venkateswara. It is located in Chittoor District a Small Village in Puttur Taluk.

Here the Lord idol is 7 feet high with four arms, the upper two arms hold Shanka and chakra while the lower hands portray “ Abhaya mudra and Varada Mudra”.

Sri Padmavathi Amma and Sri Andalamma shrines are in the Temple courtyard.

Gold Ornaments will be brought from Tirumala during Brahmotsavams.

This temple has 3 tier Rajagopuram. This temple was built in 1232 AD.

The legend says, after Sri Venkateswara marrying to Padmavati Devi at Narayanavanam while on His way to Tirumala to meet Vakula Mata in Tirumala, happens to visit this place where Sri Siddheswara Swamy was offering penance. Upon his request, the Lord appears as Sri Prasanna Venkateswara with one hand in Abhaya Hasta (blessing pose). The rulers of Karvetinagaram has constructed a temple and performed all festivals on par with Tirumala, Tirupati and Tiruchanoor in this temple.

Every year during the month of Jyesta, the annual brahmotsavams are observed with aplomb' The other festivals including Radha Saptami, Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Pavitrotsavams, Vaikuntha Ekadasi etc. are also observed in a big way.
