Sri Agnipureeswarar Temple Timings - Thirupugalur

 

Sri Agnipureeswarar Temple is located in Thirupugalur village in Nagapattinam district in the state of Tamilnadu.


It is one of the Paadal petra Sthalam.


Agnipureeswarar is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Goddess Karundar Kuzhali is the consort of Agnipureeswarar.


Three murthis in the temple, Bhoodeshwarar, Varthamaneswarar and Bhavisheyeswarar are the symbols of past, present and future.


This is the 75th Lord Shiva temple on southern bank of Cauvery praised in Thevaram hymns.


The Agni idol is with 2 faces, 7 hands, 3 feet and 4 horns.


Here Lord Shiva was worshipped by agni so came to be known as Agnipureeswarar.


This temple was built in Dravidian style of architecture.


This temple has 5 tier Raja gopuram and Koneru here named as Agni theertham.


This temple was built in 10th century.


This temple is believed to be the place where Saint Appar have attained Salvation.
