Sri Kambakareswarar Swamy Temple Timings – Tirupuvanam

 

Sri Kambakareswarar Swamy Temple is located in Tirupuvanam in Thanjavur district in the state of Tamilnadu.


The main deity of this temple is Sri Sarabeswarar, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He is swayambhu and 7 feet tall.


Goddess Dharma Samvardhini is the consort of Sri Sarabeswarar.


The architecture of this temple is similar to big temple at Thanjavur, Airavateswara temple at Darasuram and Gangaikonda Cholapuram temples.


The distinct feature of all the temples are the vimana, the structure over the sanctum, being taller than the gateway tower, which is an unusual feature in Dravidian temples.


This temple was built in Dravidian style of architecture and has 5 tiered Raja gopuram.


The Dwajastambha is named as Kodimaram.


There is Koneru named as Saraba theertham, Deva theertham, Gnana theertham, Vyasa theertham, Brigu theertham, Sidha theertham.


Agni, Manmadha, Varaguna Pandian, Moon and Sun had worshipped lord shiva in this temple.


This temple was built in the year 1176.


Best time to visit – September to March


Traditional dress is allowed for darshan.

Sri Raghavendra Swami was born as the second son of Gopikamba and Thimanna Bhatta in the year 1595. The great saint who was hailed as the incarnation of Prahalada, the great bhakta of Lord Maha Vishnu, was born in the Mrighashirsha Nakshatra at Buvanagiri which is in the present day Tamilnadu.
