Vashishta Cave – Rishikesh

It is an ancient cave located on Rishikesh – Badrinath road in Uttarakhand.

It is situated on the banks of the Ganga river. This is a cave where sage Vashishta meditated.

He was among the saptarishis and the guru of Lord Rama.

According to the Puranas, after the death of his children, he decided to commit suicide in the Ganga river, but the goddess Ganga warned him.

So he meditated here in this cave for a long time.

To reach this cave one has to climb 200 steps.
