Mullakkal Sri Rajarajeswari Temple – Alappuzha

 

Sri Rajarajeswari Temple is located in Alappuzha in the state of Kerala.


This temple is also called Mullakkal Bhagwati Temple


Mulla or Mullai means Jasmine in Malayalam and Tamil


This temple was built in old Kerala style


She is an incarnation of Goddess Durga.


This temple was built 500 years ago.


There are other shrines for Lord Hanuman, Ganesha, Subramanya, Navagraha, Krishna, and Ayyappa Swamy.


The temple celebrates two annual festivals - the Navratri festival (October/November) and the Thaipooyakavadi festival (November/December). The last two days are the most auspicious. Colorful processions participated by nine elephants are held in the evening. It is witnessed by thousands of devotees. Also, several cultural programs including Ottanthullal & Kathakali are staged in the temple.


The Thaipooyakavadi is celebrated for 41 days in November/December. The whole town will be full of lights and decorations and the last ten days are celebrated with glory.
