Sri Vasishteswarar Temple – Thittai
Sri
Vasishteswarar Temple is located at Thittai Village near Thanjavur city of
Tamilnadu State.
Lord
Vasishteswarar is an incarnation of Lord Shiva, and he is Swayambhu here.
Goddess Ulaga Nayaki Amman is the consort of Vasishteswarar.
This
temple is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Stahalams.
A
unique feature of this temple is a drop of water falls on the lingam exactly
every twenty-four minutes from the roof.
Sun
God dedicates his puja to the lord in the month of Tamil month Avani. During
the Uthirayana half year in the month of Panguni, the rising sun worships Lord
Shiva.
This
temple was built in the Dravidian style of architecture.
Two
Stones Suryagaanthakkal and Chandragaanthakkal which are placed at strategic
points above the Vimana are the reasons for the droplets of water which falls
on the deity.
Maharshi
Vasishta worshipped Jupiter as Raja Guru in this temple, hence the place has
guru importance.

temple was built during the 7th century.
