Vasudevananda Saraswathy Swamy
Maharaj who took the Samadhi at the Bank of Narmada River at Garudeshwara in 1914.
This temple was built in the North
Indian style of architecture.
Legend has it that once the
trinity Lakshmi, Parvati, and Saraswati were eager to test the chastity of
goddess Anasuya. After this, he sent the trinity Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. Then
he reached the ashram of Goddess Anasuya in the guise of a sage and asked to be
breastfed in alms. Then Goddess Anasuya, in the strength of her virtuous
nature, made all three gods into children and breastfed them. Similarly,
after the passage of many months, when the three gods did not return to their
world, their wives prayed to Goddess Anasuya and got their husbands back. Then
the three gods granted him a boon that Goddess Anasuya would get the son's gem from the share of those three. After this Lord Dattatreya was born.
It is said about the temple
that Swami Vasudevanand Ji made this shrine a place of residence on the banks
of river Narmada. They are considered to be the porters of Lord
Dattatreya.
It is said that the skin patients
in this temple of Lord Dattatreya also get relief. For this, water is sprinkled
on the devotees after puja and aarti. It is said that the touch of this water
relieves skin disease.
