Elk Hill Sri Murugan
Temple is located in Ooty of Tamilnadu State.
The main attraction of
the temple is a 40-foot-tall statue of Lord Murugan, which attracts
pilgrims and devotees from all directions. It is located outside the temple's
walls. The statue is a duplicate of Malaysia's Batu Caves' Murugan Statue.
Moreover, there are idols of Lord Ganesh, Lord Shiva, Goddess Shakthi, Nava
Kanika, Navagrahas, and other deities on the temple grounds.
Thaipusam is the famous
religious festival that is celebrated in January- February to
honor the Lord Murugan.
A grand procession is
held on a particular day from the Sri Mahamariamman Temple towards Elk
Hill. The devotees and the pilgrims follow the procession with large containers
containing milk as an offering. Some devotees also carry a carrier decorated with
flowers and peacock feathers, called 'kavadi' on their back which also has milk
offerings. There is also a dance form called Kavadi Attam performed at the
event.
