Adi Varaha Kshetram – Tirumala

The Universal Supremo of Kaliyuga, Sri Venkateswara Swamy resides in Tirumala to protect His devotees across the globe in this aeon.

Puranic legends indicate that Sri Maha Vishnu after completing His divine task of eliminating the demons has taken abode on Venkatachala hills in the incarnation of Sweta Varaha (wild boar).

Since then, Tirumala has been tagged as ”Adi Varaha Kshetram” and devotees will have Sri Venkateswara Swamy darshan, only after visiting Sri Varaha Swamy temple.

Puranas say that Sri Varaha Swamy, Sridevi, and Bhudevi reside on the west of Swamy Pushkarani signifying an icon of prosperity and health to all.

Swamy Pushkarini is called Varaha Pushkarani and this freshwater lake is ”Swayam Vyakta” (self-originated) its importance is mentioned in many epics including Varaha-Markandeya-Vamana- Skanda- Brahma and Bhavishyottara Puranas.

It is believed that all three crore Thirthams are considered to have originated from Swamy Pushkarini Theertham only.

Upon the directions of Sri Varaha Swamy, the Swamy Pushkarini was brought by Garuda from Vaikuntha, the abode of Sri Maha Vishnu.

Varaha Pushkarini has also become popular as Swami Pushkarani and is said to be home to nine sacred Thirthas namely Kubera Thirtham, Galava Thirtham, Markandeya Thirtham, Agni Thirtham, Yama Thirtham, Vashistha Thirtham, Varuna Thirtham, Vayu Thirtham and Saraswati Thirtham.

The ancient scriptures says that taking bath in this holy Swamy Pushkarini Thirtham would provide salvation.
