According to the Puranas, In Dwaparayuga one day Duryodhana invited the Pandava brothers to participate in Gambling. Sakuni had Spiritual power from his father. Both Parties (Kauravas and Pandavas) Started gambling. But with the spiritual power of Sakuni’s father, Duryaadhana got the victory. According to the game rule, the Pandava brothers should leave their Kingdom for 12 Years and spend 1 Year Unknowingly. The total period should be 13 Years. So Pandavas left their Kingdom and started to visit several places in India. On their way to Rameswaram, they stayed some years in Peddapuram on the hill area. They arranged a tunnelway to Rajahmundry from this hill. They prayed to Suryanarayana Swamy and built a temple to Suryanarayana Swamy on the hill rock. So the hill area is called Pandavula Metta.
