Sri Lakshmi Chennakesava Temple - Markapur
Sri Chennakesava Swamy is an incarnation of Lord
Vishnu. It is believed that lord Vishnu killed the Kesi demon at this place and the lot
came to be called Keshava.
Goddess Lakshmi is the consort of lord Vishnu.
Sun rays falling at the Lord's feet is an outstanding feature of this temple every year from 16th December to 4th January.
This temple is built in the Vijayanagara style of
architecture. The huge Galigopuram of the temple is 135 feet tall.
The temple is known for its superb carvings and the musical notes which emanate from its intricately sculpted pillars. The temple has a beautiful 40-pillared mandapam with carvings of Lord Krishna, Anjaneya, Garuda, Goddess Lakshmi & Lord Vigneshwara with their respective vahanas.
Six musical pillars in the Kalyana Mandapam produce Seven musical notes of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Da Ni in its arohana and
avarohana when gently tapped with fingers.
The Koneru is 700 meters away from the Temple.
Chenna Kesava Swamy temple was established between 1405 -1459 A.D, under the rule of Vijayanagar.
