Alpashi Ustavam at Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple 2023 Dates
Alpashi Ustavam is
celebrated at Anantha Padmanabhaswamy temple situated in Thiruvananthapuram. It
is celebrated in the month of Thulam which usually falls in October
or November.
The primary attraction is the spectacular Aarattu ceremony, which involves the deities taking a sacred bath in the sea. The head of the Travancore Royal Family leads a large procession that leaves the temple and proceeds to Shanghumugham Beach while holding a sword. As thousands of devoted followers throng the streets to see this extraordinary and historic event, one can observe elephants in captivity, mounted police, and columns of armed police.
The festival is celebrated
for 10 days. Starts with Kodiyettu (flag hoisting).Kalasamas and Ulsava
Kalasamas take place to daily routines. Special Sreebalies are conducted twice
a day at 4.30 & 8.30 pm.
