Gayatri Japam

 


  • Gayatri Japam is observed just after Shravana Purnima.
  • This day is also known as Gayatri Jaap Sankalpam and is considered to be auspicious in South India.
  • Brahmins chant the Vedas along with Gayatri Mantra with dedication.
  • In South India this forms a part of the rituals of Avani Attam, which is the commencement of the study of Vedas.
  • During this day Brahmins wear a Sacred thread called Janeyu.
  • In Telugu states Gayatri Japam is called as Gayatri Pratipada
  • As per legends Gayatri Devi is known to be Supreme Goddess
  • It is believed that a person who performs Gayatri Japam will be freed from all his sins and bestowed with all spiritual and worldly Happiness.
  • Must wake up early in the morning take a holy bath and perform the puja.
  • After performing the puja Brahmins must chant the Gayatri mantra 108 or 1008 times
  • Not only Brahmins but any individual can perform the Gayatri Japam
  • Worshipping Sun god is believed to be highly meritorious.
