Sree Mithila Shakti Peeth – Bihar (Janakpur)
Sree Mithila or Uma Devi Shakti Peeth is near Janakpur Station, Darbhanga district in Bihar.
Goddess Uma Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathi.
Here Lord Shiva is worshipped as Lord Mahodar.
Sati Devi’s left shoulder had fallen here and the temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
Maa Sita (Wife of lord Rama) was born here and her father, the famous king of Janak used to rule this region. When Sati, the wife of Shiva, sacrificed herself at the Yajna performed by her father Daksha, a very distraught Shiva started dancing with her body. He was dancing the dance of destruction. And the gods said, "Oh, we are doomed! Shiva is dancing the dance of destruction. Vishnu took his bow and cut Sati's body into fifty-one pieces with his arrows. And wherever a piece of the Divine Mother's left shoulder fell on earth, that place became a Shakti Peeth.
