Sree Masanikamma Temple – Periyapatna

 


Sree Masanikamma Temple is located at Periyapatna near Mysore of Karnataka State.


She is the incarnation of Goddess Shakti.


The temple was built in the Dravidian style of architecture.


 The main murti worshiped in the sanctum sanctorum that of Goddess Masanikamma is immovable. A separate Utsav murti is used for festivals and rituals.


Legend has it that a girl who worshiped a particular form of Mother Goddess was harassed by her family. Unable to tolerate the attitude of the family especially of her father, she jumped into a boiling limestone and got melted. The fishermen who saw the incident worshiped her. A voice in heaven asked them to worship her as she will bring peace and prosperity. After a few days, a murti (idol) appeared from the limestone and she was known as Urimasani. She later became Masanikamma. Later on, many kings of the region had the fortune of getting help from her in battles. She was thus worshipped before going into battles. The kings who became devotees of her built her temple at Periyapatna in Karnataka.

Sri Raghavendra Swami Aradhana 2024 Dates

Sri Raghavendra Swami was born as the second son of Gopikamba and Thimanna Bhatta in the year 1595. The great saint who was hailed as the incarnation of Prahalada, the great bhakta of Lord Maha Vishnu, was born in the Mrighashirsha Nakshatra at Buvanagiri which is in the present day Tamilnadu. Born as Venkatanatha and fondly called Venkata Ramana, Sri Raghavendra Swami was the epitome of piety and bhakti. Tirumala: March 2025 Quota Details

  The March 2025 quota of Arjita Seva tickets will be released on December 18 at 10am by TTD online which includes Arjita Sevas viz. Suprabhatam, Tomala, Archana, Astadalam. The devotees shall register for these sevas from December 18-20 and those who got the tickets shall have to pay from December 20 onwards and before the 12noon of December 22. Meanwhile, the Arjita Sevas like Kalyanotsavam, Unjal Seva, Arjita Brahmotsavam, Sahasra Deepalankara Seva tickets will be released at 10am on December 21 while the virtual sevas and gheir darshan slots on the same day at 3pm. Dhanurmas or Dhanur Masa is also known by the names Chapa Mas, Kodanda Mas, Karmuka Mas, etc. Dhanurmasa is also called Shoonya Masa because it is considered inauspicious to do any good things other than Godly and holy functions.   Pushya Masam is the tenth month as per the lunar calendar. In this month farmers get their crop hence it is called Soubhagya Laksmi Masam. The sun would transit in the northern direction and from then onward the Uttarayana Punyakalam starts. Uttarayana starts with the most famous festival Sankranti.
