Sri Huccharaya Swamy Temple – Shikaripura
Sri Huccharaya Swamy Temple is located in Shikaripura
taluk of Shimoga district in Karnataka State.
The temple is located on the outskirts of Shikaripur
town and close to Huchurayakere Lake.
It is believed that Sri Huchurayaswamy Temple
originated around the 17th century.
Huchchappaswamy belonging to the Veerashaiva community came from Kavaladurga Mutt in Tirthahalli taluk and settled in the village,
got good Brahmin ordination and finally built a monastery here. Once in the
dream of Huchappaswamy Goddess Hanuman, his idol is placed in a large lake near
the town and is ordered to be erected. The next day, some people are mocked
when the matter is addressed to the leaders of the town. Some people
unintentionally checked the side of the Huchappaswamy, and a square stone beak
appears to have faded. Most curiously disabled, there is a beautiful idol of
Lord Hanuman. The statue of Prasanna Anjaneyaswamy, which is about four feet
deep and six feet long, is extracted. The stone beak is still on the temple
premises. When it comes to setting up, Huchchappaswamys Monastery is
right. Huchchappaswamy says that if the name of this god is given to him, he
would give it a place in the monastery. On this condition, God is installed in
the monastery. Since then, this deity is known by the name of Huchchappaswamy.
