Govatsa Dwadashi
- It is dedicated to worshiping cows as a thanksgiving gesture for their help in sustaining human life.
- It is also popularly known as ‘Nandini Vrat’ and is observed on the ‘Dwadashi’ (12th day) of the ‘Krishna Paksha’ in the ‘Ashwin’ month. In the north, it falls during Karthik Month
- It falls one day before the celebrations of ‘Dhanteras’.
- On this day devotees worship ‘Nandini’, the divine cow. It is believed that by doing so all their wishes will be fulfilled.
- In Maharashtra, this day is observed as ‘Vasu Baras’ and is the first day of the Deepavali festivities.
- On this day ‘Sripada Vallabha Aradhana Utsav’ is held at Pithapuram Datta Mahasamsthan in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
- In Gujarat, it is celebrated as ‘Vagh Baras’.
- The significance of this day is mentioned in ‘Bhavishya Purana’.
- In some parts of Northern India, this day is also referred to as ‘Vagh’, which implies repaying one’s financial debts.

- Apply Turmeric and Kumkum to cows and claves
- An aarti is performed on cow

- In Some areas people won't drink cow milk on this day.
- Women observe fast for the long life of their children
- It is a popular belief that if a childless couple performs the Govatsa Dwadashi puja will be blessed with a child.
