Tirumala: Padmavati Pariyanotsavam from May 17
The
three-day annual festival of Sri Padmavati Parinayotsavam will be celebrated in
Tirumala from May 17 to 19.
The
celestial wedding ceremony of Sridevi Bhudevi and Srinivasa is performed
with great pomp at the Parinayotsava Mandapam in the Narayangiri Gardens every
year.
In this
three-day event, Sri Malayappa Swamy will be worshipped on Gajavahanam on the
first, Horse-carrier on the second, and Garuda Vahanam on the last.
TTD has
canceled Arjita Brahmotsavam and Sahasra Deepalankara sevas on these three
days.
According
to the Puranas, about five thousand years ago, in the early days of
Kali Yuga, Sri Maha Vishnu came to earth as Sri Venkateswara from
Vaikuntha.
At that
time Akasharaja, who was ruling Narayanavana, gave his daughter Sri Padmavati
in marriage to Sri Venkateswara.
Sri
Venkatachala Mahatyam states that Akasharaja performed a divine wedding in
Narayanavanam on Vaishaka Shuddha Dashami in the advent of Phalguni Nakshatra.
TTD
organizes the Padmavati Parinayotsavam for three days, one day before and one
day after every Vaisakh Shuddha Dashami Tithi to mark the auspicious occasion
of the wedding of Padmavati with Srinivasa.
This festival has been in vogue since 1992. Marking the significance of Narayanavanam where the wedding of Sri Padmavati Srinivasa took place in those days, TTD celebrates Sri Padmavati Pariyanotsavam in Narayanagiri Gardens at Tirumala.
