Sri Magudeswarar Temple – Kodumudi
Sri Magudeswarar Temple
is located in Kodumudi in Erode district of Tamilnadu.
It is situated on the
banks of the river Kaveri
It is one of the Paadal
Petra Sthalam.
Here Lord Shiva is
worshipped as Magudeswarar and his consort is Sundaranayaki.
The temple is known as
Trimurthy Kovil because it is dedicated to the shrines of Lord Shiva, Lord
Vishnu, and Lord Brahma.
The Stala Vriksham is the Vanni tree and the Theertham is the river Kaveri.
This is a large temple
complex containing 7 main shrines.

The legend of this temple
is connected to the sage Agastya. Once the sage noticed that the idol was
disappearing. He caught the idol in his hand and his fingerprints can be seen
on the deity.
The biggest celebration
held at the temple is the 11-day Chithirai Tirunal festival in April/May.
There would be a large number of devotees on Aadi Perukku day in July or
August.
Special Pujas are
performed in the temple on new moon, full moon days, and on Pradosha days-13th
day of the new moon or full moon days, a day of great importance for Lord Shiva
worship.
The other celebrations
include Arudra Darisanam, Thaippoosam, and Aippasi Pournami.
Devotees throng the place
to perform Tarpan for the ancestors on the new moon day in the Cauvery
River.
Those afflicted with Ragu
planet adverse effects pray here for the removal of obstacles in wedding proposals
and for child boon.
People perform abhishek
to Lord Vinayaka with several pots of water equal to their age.
