Temples of India: Pataleshwar Mahadev Temple
The Pataleshwar Mahadev
Temple is situated in Orai, Uttar Pradesh.
This temple was built 120
years ago.
The meaning of the name
"Pataleshwar" is "Lord of the Netherworld,"
Devotees believe that
worshipping at this temple during Sawan can wash away all their sins while
bringing peace and prosperity to their lives. The temple attracts thousands of
devotees during Sawan, who participate in rituals, offer milk and bilva leaves
(Bel Patra) to the Shiva Lingam, and chant mantras.
The Sawan month is marked
by grand celebrations at this Temple.
The "Kanwar
Yatra," in which followers, referred to as "Kanwariyas," travel
to the temple bearing sacred water from the Ganges to present to Lord Shiva, is
one of the primary attractions.
The Pataleshwar Mahadev
Temple has several unique traditions associated. This includes the
"Rudrabhishek," a unique ceremony that is carried out to get Lord
Shiva's blessings. On night vigils, devotees recite stories from the Shiva
Purana and sing devotional songs. Additionally, the temple provides the
devotees with free meals, called Bhandara.
It is located at 112 km from Kanpur.
