Sri Dodda Ganapathi Temple – Bengaluru
Sri Dodda Ganapathi temple is located on Bull temple
road in Bengaluru city in the state of Karnataka.
Here Lord Ganapathi's idol is 22 feet in height and 16 feet in width.
Lord is made out of 110 kilograms of butter after every
four years.
It is amazing to know that the butter never melts. After
four years butter is distributed to devotees.
Dodda means huge size in Kannada.
This temple has 3 tier Rajagopuram.
This temple was built in the 16th Century.
This temple was built in 16th century by Kempe Gowda. Once
found a big rock which is looking like Ganesha and ordered his sculptures to
carve it well and built a temple dedicated to Lord Vinayaka.
This temple is also known
for its Ganesha festival which attracts visitors from everywhere. During the
festival which goes on for a week, the idol of Lord Ganesh is decorated in
different ways. The most captivating one is Benne Alankara where idol is smeared
with a whopping 100 kg of butter. Ganesha Idol is also covered with in cream
colour and is decorated with golden laces and buttons. It is the best time to
visit this temple as you get a glimpse of the colourful fervor of the festival.
