Sri Appakkudathaan Perumal Temple is located at Koviladi
Village near Tiruchirapalli in Thanjavur
district in the state of Tamilnadu. This temple is on the banks of river
Cauvery.
Appakkudathaan Perumal is an incarnation of Lord
Vishnu. He is in Bhujanga Sayana Posture here.
Goddess Kamalavalli is the consort of Appakkudathaan.
It is one of the 108 divyadesam temples and also one
of the five Pancharanga Sthalas.
Appam is a sweet preparation offered to God as
Nivedhana. Perumal got the name Appakkudathaan as he received the pot of Appam
from King Upamanyu.
This temple was built in Chola style of architecture
and has 3 tier Rajagopuram.
The Koneru here named as Indira Pushkarini.
This temple was built 1000 years ago.
It is believed that this is the temple where sage Markandeya
was liberated from his curse from Yama, whom cursed Markandeya to die at the
age of 16.
Car festival on Panguni Uthiram, Theerthavari in
March-April, Vaikunta Ekadasi, Navratri and Pot breaking utsav in Adi month are
the important festivals celebrated here.
