Sri Vedagiriswarar Swamy Temple Timings – Tirukalukundram

 

Sri Vedagiriswarar Swamy Temple is located in Tirukalukundram in Chengalpattu district in the state of Tamilnadu. This temple consists of two structures one at foot-hill and other at top-hill.


Sri Vedagiriswarar is an incarnation of Lord Shiva, who is swayambhu here.He is at the top hill.


Thripurasundari Amman is the consort of Vedagiriswarar, she is at the foot-hill.


It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams.


Devotional poet Arunagirinathar describes the place as the one equal to Amaravathi the capital of Indra.


This temple has 7 tier Rajagopuram and has four towers in all directions.


Lord Vedagiriswarar resides at the top of the hills, grouping the four vedas.


Sangu theertha praised as Markandeya theertha and it produces a conch even now once in 12 years.


There are 12 theerthas around the hill named as Indira, Shambu, Rudra, Vasishta, Meignana, Agasthya, Markandeya, Kausika, Nandi, Varuna, Akalika and Pakshi theerthas.


The lord has been praised by four great tamil saints – Thirugnana Sambandar, Thirunavukarasar, Sundaramurthi Swamigal and Manickavasakar.


Devotees pray here for Mental Peace and Salvation. Those who are mentally retarded will stay here for 48 days and bath in Sangu theertham will be fully cured.


Diseases of any intense nature as Asthma, blood pressure are cured by prayers to Lord. Devotees also come Seeking weeding and child boon.


Traditional dress is allowed for darshan.

Sri Raghavendra Swami was born as the second son of Gopikamba and Thimanna Bhatta in the year 1595. The great saint who was hailed as the incarnation of Prahalada, the great bhakta of Lord Maha Vishnu, was born in the Mrighashirsha Nakshatra at Buvanagiri which is in the present day Tamilnadu.
