Sree Sankata Devi Mandir – Varanasi
Sree Sankata Devi Mandir is located in the Varanasi city of Uttar Pradesh State.
The main deity of this temple
is Sankata Devi, who is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathi with a height of 4
to 5 feet tall is a Swayambhu.
Sankatha Mata is a four-armed idol, the idol of the Mata is silver plated. On both sides of the Mata, there is the idol of Lord Hanuman and Lord Bhairav.
There is a huge statue of the lion inside the premises and In the middle of which there is a giant peepal tree.
The name "Sankata" has been derived from the Sanskrit word "Sankat" which means "Danger". Goddess Sankata Devi was originally a Matrika. In Puranas, she is referred to as "Vikat Matrika", (the fierce mother).
It is an Ancient and Historical Temple, no gopuram here and there is a very large gate to enter the temple.
According to the Puranic stories she is known as the Vikat Matrika means the Fierce Mother. It is commonly believed that Pandavas had paid homage to the Sankatha Devi during their exile.
In the late 18th century, the King of Baroda constructed the Sankata Ghat. At the same time, the Sankata Devi Mandir was also constructed.
