Once Along with his queen
Kumuddhati Devi, King Mordhwaj conducted a tour of his kingdom. It was early
dawn when they came back. While crossing
the river Karun, King Mordhwaj, who was on the other side, had the idea to
continue traveling after finishing his morning duties. They stopped on the riverbank (now
Mahadevghat), thinking about this. Wearing
a cloth veil, the attendants began leading the queen to the river so she could
have a bath. The queen and her maids
noticed that a large rock was laying in the water and that three enormous
snakes were sitting there with their hoods fanned out on three sides as soon as
the river got close. After seeing this
incident, everyone yelled in fear and retreated to a halt. The king received all of the news. The moment
the king heard the news, he quickly traveled to that location. He was shocked
to see this scene as well. He immediately called Rajpurohit and Raj
Jyotishi. Additionally, he observed,
meditated, and informed the king that Rajan, this is not a stone but a goddess
idol that is lying upside down. After
taking a bath and acting on his advice, King Mordhwaj systematically performed
adoration and walked near the rock. From
there, three enormous snakes began to descend one by one. The king touched the rock after they had
departed, knelt down, and had it straightened.
Everyone was shocked to
see that Mahishasuramardini is an idol of the round goddess Bhagwati and that
she stood on a lion rather than a rock. All of them saw this and bowed with
palms folded. The idol then uttered the words, "O Rajan! Your Kuldevi is me. You honor and revere me;
I am Mahamaya. The king sought guidance from his acharyas, pandits, and
astrologers. Everyone urged that Bhagwati Maa Mahamaya's life should be
dedicated, but it wasn't until later that it was discovered that a new temple
had been built for another deity in the current old township area. The
life of Adishakti Maa Mahamaya was dedicated by taking it entirely from the
Kharun River using Vedic and Tantric methods after the construction work in the
same temple had been completed per the goddess' instructions. Let us inform you that the Goddess idol that
is housed in the temple is visible from the outside. But the idol straightens out as soon as one
walks into the temple.
