Utpanna Ekadasi

  Utpanna Ekadashi or ‘Uttpatti Ekadashi’ is observed on the ‘Ekadashi’ (11th day) of the Krishna Paksha during the ‘Margashirsh’ month. But in South India it falls in Karthika Masam. In the Malayalam calendar, the month is ‘Vrischika Masam’ or ‘Thulam’ and in the Tamilian calendar it is observed during the ‘Karthigai Masam’ or ‘Aippasi’.   Mandala kalam is celebrated in Sabarimala temple for 41 days. It is also known as Mandala Masam and it is the main pilgrimage of Sabarimala Temple. Dhanurmas or Dhanur Masa is also known by the names Chapa Mas, Kodanda Mas, Karmuka Mas, etc. Dhanurmasa is also called Shoonya Masa because it is considered inauspicious to do any good things other than Godly and holy functions. Tirumala: Vana Bhojanam on November 17

Kartika Vanabhojanam in Tirumala is scheduled on November 17. As a part of this Sri Malayappa Swamy will reach the Paruveta Mandapam on a small Gaja Vahanam. The Goddesses will go accompany Him in the procession on another palanquin to the Parveta Mandapam located in the deep green woods of Seshachala ranges. What is Jwalathoranam

  Jwalathoranam is a great utsavam performed during Karthika Purnima day in Lord Shiva Temples. Two big wooden sticks are erected and and another stick is placed upon horizontally as a thoran. The horizontally placed stick is tied with a huge dry grass. The grass is lit with fire at the beginning of the Utsavam. Those who walk along with the procession under this Jwalathoranam will escape from sorrows.

Karthika Purnima

  The Purnima day in the Kartik month is known as Kartik Purnima.  It is also known as Tripuri Poornima or  Deva-Diwali  It is also one of the days when the temples of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are full of devotees. Lord Mahadev killed a demon named Tripuri on this day and hence, it is known as Tripuri Purnima.  It is believed that Krishna and Radha danced rasa and Krishna worshipped Radha on this day.
