Do’s and Dont’s on Mahashivaratri
Mahashivartri is observed during Magha Masa Krishna Paksha Chaturdasi tithi as per South Indian calendar, where as in North india it falls in the Month of Phalguna.
Do’s
- Wake up early in the morning before Sunrise.
- Take bath and wear fresh clothes
- Perform Abhishek to Lord Shiva
- Chant Om Namah Shivaya as many times as possible.
- Do fasting based on your health
- Consume fruits and milk
- Maintain Celibacy as you observe vrat
- Do meditation
Dont’s
- Do not offer Tulasi leaves
- Do not offer Ketaki flowers
- Avoid wheat, rice, spicy and oily foods
- Do not consume tobacco or alcohol
