Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple - Srinivasa Mangapuram
Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple is located at
Srinivasa mangapuram near Tirupati City in the State of Andhrapradesh.
Here Lord Venkateswara is called as Kalyana
Venkateswara Swamy. The idol is 9 ½ feet tall. He is standing with
four hands with two left hands one in varada mudra and one holding chakra and the right two hands one in kati mudra and the other holding Shanka.
Goddess Sridevi and Bhudevi are the consorts of Lord
Venkateswara.
This temple is situated on the banks of River Kalyani, a tributary of river Swarnamukhi.
According to Vaikhanasa Sasthram Lord Venkateswara's idol is Sthanaka Yoga Viraha Murthy. Sthanaka means standing, yoga means the
idol is mainly for rishis who wish to attain Mukti, and viraha means without Sanka and chakra.
Lord Srinivasa stayed here six months after marriage before going to Tirumala.
The location where the Lord
stayed with his bride became a holy shrine and acquired the name, Sri Kalyana
Venkateswara Swamy temple. The temple is facing an East direction with the Dravidian Style of Architecture. Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple consists
of a 5-tier Raja Gopuram.
The Temple is in a
big courtyard surrounded by a prakara wall and faces the East. The only
entrance into the prakara in the East is surmounted by a Gopuram. As per the
inscriptions on the temple, it is said that the grandson of Sri Annamacharya,
Sri Tallapaka Chinna Tirumala Acharya had renovated this temple during the 16th
century. It was maintained by the Tallapaka Family over a long period.
Later it came under the administration of the Archaeological Department, Government
of India. Finally, in 1967, it came under the control of TTD.
The temple has an Ardha Mandapa and
Maha Mandapa, constructed square in plan with pillars and pilasters. These
contain Toranas of Gaja(Elephant), Simha(Lion), and Makara(Crocodile) with squarish
bases, hexagonal and circular parts above along with Pushpapothikas, Lotus Buds, and Friezes.
After celebrating his marriage
with Goddess Padmavathi, Lord Venkateswara did not return to Tirumala Hills,
but instead, he visited the Sage Agastya Ashram to seek blessings. Over the wish
of Sage Agastya, Lord Venkateswara along with his consort stayed at his Ashram
which has now become the famous temple. The divine couple stayed here for six
months. While returning to the Tirumala Temple, Lord Venkateswara blessed the
place with two boons.
