city of Gujarat State.
Lord Shiva is the Presiding deity of this temple. This
temple features a three-eyed lord Shiva idol.
The Takhteshwar Temple in Gujarat is a beautiful
example of late 19th-century architecture and is constructed entirely of
marble. One of the most attractive temples in Bhavnagar, Takhteshwar Temple is
built on a hill and features the best Gujarati-style architecture. Images of Hindu gods and hand-crafted Hindu
symbols can be seen all around the main Shiva shrine. Another little statue of
the bull Nandi is located in the courtyard. It is noted because the magnificent
temple courtyard, directly below the "sikhara," displays excellent
marble work carving. To get to the main temple, one must travel through a set
of pedestrian stairs covered in marble. One may enjoy the breathtaking view of
the Gulf of Cambay from the temple.
The temple was constructed back in the year 1893 A.D.
and was named after Maharaja Takhatsihnji who was one of the most important
rulers of Bhavnagar. He was the one who ordered to build the
temple.
Thousands of devotees visit the temple from different
parts of the country to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Especially on the
occasion of Shivratri, many devotees visit the temple to pay homage to Lord
Shiva. The route to the temple is a small trek, which is loaded with stones.
The stones act as milestones for devotees, as the climb is quite steep, and
might be difficult for old people.
