Do’s and Dont’s in Karthika Month

  Karthika month is one of the auspicious month in hindu calendar. This month people observe strict rituals. Daily morning bath in rivers, going to temples, lighting deepam, fasting are the major things to be done. Few practices during this month Get up early in the morning (brahma muhurta) and take bath before sunrise (if possible in rivers) Regularly Visit Lord Shiva, Vishnu and other temples. Read holy scriptures like Shiva Puranam, Kartika Puranam, Vishnu Sahasranamam and other devotional books Perform pooja at home by offering naivedyam. Light deepam daily in both morning and evening. Perform Japas, Samudra Snanam (river bath) Observe fast especially on Mondays , Ekadasi , Dwadasi and Pournami days. Donation is considered highly auspicious during this month. Donate to poor and people in need. Eat Satvik food. Avoid Onions, Masala items, Garlic and non-veg food.

Karthik Masa is considered to be one of the most promising months for all the Hindus. This month also brings in the winter season. The Karthik Masa generally starts during October to November, which is the eighth month according to the Hindu calendar.  The Hindus worship Lord Shiva during this month and they are required to follow certain rituals and customs throughout the entire month. Deeparadhana at Karthika Masam

  One of the main thing during Karthika masam is lighting the Deepam. It is considered very auspicious during Karthika month to light diyas. From the first day of Karthika till the end of the month diyas are lit and placed infront of Tulasi tree and near the main entrance of the house before Sunrise and after Sunset. Devotees also light the diya in temples also. Large deepam is lit on the top of the dwajastambha or on a hill by priests in almost all temples, which is called as Akasa Deepam. The theme of lighting diyas is inviting devatas for their blessings. Deeparadana during this sacred month will be done to Purify soul from bad deeds.   Kartika Masam is the eighth month of the Hindu traditional calendar. Lord Damodar is worshipped in this month. The most important thing to do is donate a Deepam (lamp) this month. Deepam are donated in temples, Ponds, rivers, etc. Deepam Danam, this month, leads to the attainment of Virtue. Tulsi has been worshiped in this before. After waking up early in the morning must offer water to Tulsi Plant. It is very important to worship Tulsi on Ksheerabdi Dwadasi Must observe fast on this month.   Ekadasi Vrat is the most auspicious day dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Ekadasi in Sanskrit means Eleven. Observed on the 11 th  day of every fortnight. There are two Ekadasi every month (Krishna Paksha and Sukhla Paksha)        Rules for keeping Ekadashi Upvaas: One should not eat any cereals like rice, pulses, wheat, etc. & salt. If possible, one should stay on water-Drinking lukewarm water or lemon-mishri (crystalized sugar) water is very good as it cleanses the hidden undigested food in the body. If one feels hungry, then one can take milk or fruit. Fruit should not be eaten with milk (Milk Shakes). Vaikunta Ekadasi/ Mukkoti Ekadasi

Vaikuntha Ekadasi is one of the important and auspicious days for Hindus. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It occurs in the Hindu calendar, in the month of Margashirsha (Between December and January). Also called the 'Mukkoti Ekadasi', when observed, it bestows liberation from the cycle of birth and death.  Devotees believe that ‘Vaikuntha Dwaram’ or ‘the gate to Lord's Inner Sanctum’ is opened on this day.   According to the Hindu, the full moon day is called Purnima. Purnima is also spelled as pournami, punnami, or Poornima. Poornima marks the end of a month and is considered a highly auspicious day by Hindus and some people in India even fast on Poornima. Many important rituals and festivals take place in Purnima.  How to fast during Purnima: The Purnima Fasting begins at Sunrise and ends after seeing the Moon. Tirumala: Diwali Asthanam on October 31

  On the auspicious day of Deepavali,  Asthanam will be held in Tirumala temple on October 31. The religious ritual takes place in the Ghanta Mandapam inside Bangaru Vakili from 7 am to 9 am. As part of the Asthanam, Sri Malayappa Swamy along with the Sridevi and Bhudevi will be offered prayers on the Sarvabhoopala Vahanam facing the Garudalwar.   Sri Vishvaksena, the commander-in-chief, is also enshrined on another pedestal to the left of the Sri Malayappa facing South. After that, special puja, harati and prasadams are offered to the deities by the priests with which Deepavali Asthanam concludes. At 5pm, Sri Malayappa Swamy along with Sridevi and Bhudevi will participate in Sahasra Deepalankarana Seva and walk around the four mada streets majestically to bless the devotees. TTD has cancelled the Tiruppavada, Kalyanotsavam, Unjal Seva and Arjitha Brahmotsavam on October 31 due to Deepavali Asthanam.
