When he overturned Shilapat, he saw a rare statue of Lord Vishnu. He cleaned it and took it home. When he was not allowed to keep this statue in his house, he kept the statue at the house of neighboring Shiva Pujan Mishtri. The British collector Silat came to know about this. Why Tiruppavai is called Dravida Veda?

Image
Veda should have so many mantras encased in swaras in Sanskrit. The four Vedas are like mountains. It took 300 years, even for a sage like Sage Bharadwaja, to study them. That is why this simple, straightforward Tiruppavai, which embodies all the tatva in a lucid style evolved. This is nothing but a garland submitted to Paramatma. If one studies this work, the jnana (knowledge) will awaken within oneself. The fragrance of Tiruppavai will never cease. Since Tamil is the language of Dravids, it is called Dravida Veda.

Utpanna Ekadasi

Image
Utpanna Ekadashi or ‘Uttpatti Ekadashi’ is observed on the ‘Ekadashi’ (11th day) of the Krishna Paksha during the ‘Margashirsh’ month. But in South India it falls in Karthika Masam. In the Malayalam calendar, the month is ‘Vrischika Masam’ or ‘Thulam’ and in the Tamilian calendar it is observed during the ‘Karthigai Masam’ or ‘Aippasi’. It celebrates the victory of Lord Vishnu over a demon named ‘Murasura’. It is a popular belief that this Ekadashi helps devotees get rid of all their sins, both of their present and past lives. The greatness of this Ekadasi is described in various Hindu scriptures like the ‘Bhavishyottara Purana’ in the form of a conversation between Sri Krishna and King Yudhisthira. It is considered that the observer of Utapanna Ekadashi is liberated from his/her sins and finally attains moksha or salvation.
