Sri Chengalamma Ammavaru Temple - Sullurpeta

Sri Chengalamma Parameswari Ammavari temple is located at Sullurpeta town in  Nellore district. Goddess Self Manifested herself in the Village.

She is an incarnation of the goddess Shakti.

ISRO scientists seek the blessings of Sri Chengalamma Parameswara before launching any satellite since Goddess Chengalamma has great power.

Originally known as Tenkali (Dakshina Kali), the goddess' name was eventually changed to Chengali and then to Chengalamma, her current name. After that, a community developed around this temple, which was given the name Chengali Peta. Sullurpeta became the new name during British rule. The temple faces south.

This temple has 7 tier Rajagopuram.

Once upon a time, that is about the 10th century in the Nellore district beside Kalangi river, a few cow takers while swimming noticed Goddess idol, immediately they rushed to the village to inform everyone. Further, villagers reached the place to collect the idol, but to their surprise, all their efforts in moving the idol went in vain. Next day with all hope they approached the idol and noticed that the idol is facing south and was standing straight. Only after performing poojas, they were able to lift the Idol. Idol was carried to the current place and installed here. 400 years back, villagers tried to build a door for the temple, at that time Goddess appeared in their dream and instructed them that she is there to give blessings to the pilgrims at all times, hence the trials for making doors should be withdrawn and temple should be opened for 24 hours. Following the Goddess's instructions, the villagers left the temple open for 24 hours. Chengalamma Thalli and her Idol in the temple face the sea.

The Chola Dynasty, which dominated the area in the 10th century, constructed a small residence in honor of Sri Chengalamma after learning about the goddess who originated in the Kalangi River.
