Four Mathas of Adi Shankaracharya
This are four mathas established by Adi Shankaracharya in eight century.
They are promoting and spreading the Sanatan tradition.
They are
· Jyotirmath located in Joshimath
· Govardhan Math located in Puri
· Sringeri Sharda Peeth which is situated in Sringeri.
· Dwarka Peeth which is situated in Dwarka.
Jyotirmath
- It is located in Chamoli in Uttarakhand.
- Thotakacharya is the first head of this matha
- The Mahavakya is “Ayamatma Brahma”(Atma is Brahma)
- It follows Nandavala Sampradaya
- The Veda is Atharva Veda
Govardhan Matha
- It is located in Puri in Odhisa
- Padmapada is the first head of this matha
- The Mahavakya is “Prajnanam Brahma” (Consciousness is Brahma)
- It follows Bhogavala Sampradya
- The Veda is Rig Veda
Sringeri Peeth
- It is located in Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka
- Sureswara is the first head of this math.
- Mahavakya is “Aham Brahmasami” (iam Brahma)
- It follows Bhurivala Sampradya
- The Veda is Yajur Veda
Dwaraka Peeth
- It is located in Dwaraka in Gujarat
- Hastamalakacharya is the first head
- Mahavakya is Tattvamasi
- It follows Kitavala Sampradya
- The veda is Sama Veda
