Adhik Amavasya

The Amavaysa in Adhik Maas is called as Adhik Amavasya.

According to religious beliefs, on the day of Amavasya, our ancestors descend down upon the earth and expect to be satisfied with their progeny. It is said that those who do not offer Tarpan, Pind Daan, or Shradh to their ancestors, they get angry with them. This leads to the creation of Pitra Dosh in one’s life. Therefore, to please the forefathers, on the new moon day of Adhik Maas, one should do tarpan for them after taking a holy bath.

Lord Sri Hari Vishnu, the presiding deity of Adhikamas, grants salvation to all of his devotees. Amavasya is a day devoted to pleasing and thanking our ancestors. In this case, Amavasya's significance during Adhik Maas increases. In addition to worshiping Sri Hari Vishnu throughout the month of Amavasya, one should also perform acts of charity and other acts of ancestor worship. Then, appeal to Lord Vishnu to grant your ancestors salvation, which will undoubtedly satisfy them and provide them peace of mind.
