Bathukamma Dates 2024
- Bathukamma is a festival celebrated in the state of Telangana.
- It is celebrated during the time of Sharad Navratri.
- It starts on Bhadrapada Amavasya and ends on durga Ashtami.
- Goddess Gowri is worshipped
- It is celebrated to thank goddess Parvati for her blessings for the crop harvest
- Bathukamma is a flower arrangement made by women. It is a conical arranagement of flowers that are placed in Seven concentric rings in a clay pot.
- The top of the arrangement is decorated with a pumpkin flower and turmeric.
- Women dance round these bathukammas singing traditional songs.
- After that these cones are set afloat in the river after worshipping goddess gauri.
- Various cultural activities take place and locally Jataras are also held.
Things to do :
- Women clean their homes
- Cow dung is used to purify the ambience and welcome Goddess Gauri.
- Collect Various seasonal flowers to decorate Bathukamma
- Decorate houses with floral designs and cow dungs are placed around the house.
