Temples of India: Nidhivan Temple, The Place where Lord Shri Krishna is believed to Dance Every Night.
Nidhivan Temple is
situated in Vrindavan in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh State.
Nidhi means Treasure and
Van means forest
Anybody who spends the
night within the temple is said to lose their hearing, have difficulty seeing,
or maybe become insane.
Another mysterious fact
associated with Nidhivan is that if someone tries to see the mysterious Ras
Leela by keeping themselves hidden Nidhivan faces serious issues. This is
because one can't disclose the secret of this temple.
The priest maintains a
saree, paan leaves, sweets, holy water, and bracelets in a Rang Mahal inside
the shrine. When they have finished Arti in the temple, they prepare the bed.
Interestingly, everything in the surrounding area has scattered in the
morning. This is one of the temple's great mysteries. It's also said that after
Raas Leela, Lord Krishna, and Radha Rani come here to rest.
After performing the last
Arti in the temple which is done around 5 pm, no one is allowed to be in the
temple periphery, not even animals. This is because Lord Krishna is believed to
appear in the area at night to dance with Radha and all other gopis.
The temple is surrounded
by bushy forests and all the trees here are hollow and have branches
twisted downwards. It is believed that these trees are not real trees but
'Gopis' who perform Ras Leela with Radha and Krishna in the night. Trees are
also said to be hollow.
Even though the area
surrounding the temple is extremely dry, the trees manage to stay green all
year long.
Nidhivan consists of one
palace called Rang Mahal. Here, there is a bed of sandalwood which is prepared
every night for Lord Krishna. They keep the jar that is filled with water
beside the bed. They also place several other things like Neem Daatun for brushing
teeth and Pan. In the morning when the doors of Rang Mahal open that bed looks
as if somebody has slept on Sandalwood. Along with it, the water that is kept
in Jar, Neem Datun, and Pan also looked like consumed.
It is said that all the
trees around the temple light up at night to welcome the Gods.
Another mysterious fact
associated with Nidhivan is the rock garden which has the footprints of young
Krishna. Along with it, the calf of Krishna can be observed in the mountains.
According to the story, Lord Krishna used to play hide and seek with his friends and used to hide behind this rock. It is believed that this rock was actually a big mountain that melted and into a rock piece. Footprints of Lord Krishna and his calf can be seen on this rock.
