Ashada Amavasya

Ashada Amavasya is very auspicious in the month of Ashada. Deepa Puja is the major ritual to perform on this day. On this day, people clean and decorate their houses and clean all diyas (deepas) they have in their houses and decorate them with colors.

They clean and sanctify a  table with decoration and rangoli (kolam) designs around it. All the deepas are placed on the table and lit to perform a pooja.

Deepa Puja is dedicated to Isha Devata and Pancha Maha Bhootas (Air, water, fire, sky, and earth).

Like Diwali puja, in the evening once again all deepas are lit. Devotees believe that Deepa Puja provides them Asta Aishwarayas. The next day of Deepa Puja (Ashada Amavasya) is the holy Shravan Month.

In Andhra Pradesh it is celebrated as Chukkala Amavasya, For Karnataka, it is Bheemana Amavasya. In Maharashtra, it is Gatari Amavasya.

Those who observe fast and perform puja and do charity is free from all kind of doshas and sins.
