Sri Vedapureeswarar Swamy Temple Timings – Cheyyar

 

Sri Vedapureeswarar Swamy Temple is located on the northern banks of the Cheyyar river in the Tiruvannamalai district in the state of Tamilnadu.


Lord Vedapureeswarar is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and he is Swayambhu here.


Sri Balakujambigai is the consort of Lord Shiva


It is one of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams and the 8th Shiva sthalam in Thondai Nadu.


The significance of this temple is that everyday sun rays fall directly on the Shivalingam.


The Nandi faces the opposite direction to Shivalingam in this temple.


One can also worship all the Pancha Bootha lingams in this temple.


This temple has 7 tier Rajagopuram


It has a 1000 pillared hall and some unique works of Sculpture.


The koneru is named Kalyana Kodi Theertham.


This temple was built in the 6th century.


Lord Vinayaka, Murugan, Dakshina Murthy, Brahma, Natrajar, Veerabhadra, and 63 Nayanars are worshipped in the temple


There is also a separate Shrine for Lord Vishnu in the name of Aadhi Kesava Perumal.


It is believed that those seeking “santhana prapthi” (child boon) can pray to the Goddess here by offering palm fruits and then consuming them.


Devotees also worship Lord Shiva of this temple for prosperity and wisdom.


Ten days of Brahmotsavam in the Tamil month of Thai (January-February) is celebrated grandly.


Lakshadeepam and Gnanasambanthar festival on Visakam day in the Tamil month of Aadi (July-August), Magam and Shivaratri in the Tamil month of Masi (February-March), Pankuni Uthiram in the Tamil month of Pankuni (March-April) are also celebrated here.


Monthly Pradosham is also regularly observed.


Traditional dress is allowed for darshan.
