Kalabhairav Jayanthi
- Kalabhairav Jayanti also known as ‘Mahakaal Bhairavashtami’ or ‘Kala Bhairav Ashtami’ the fearsome form of Lord Shiva.
- In south India it is celebrated in Karthik Masam, whereas in North India it falls in Margashira Masam.
- The festival of Kalabhairav Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of Kala Bhairav.
- This day is considered to be more auspicious when it falls on a Tuesday or Sunday as these days are dedicated to Lord Kala Bhairav.
- Lord Kalabhirava is a fearful manifestation of Lord Shiva.
- Devotees worship Lord Shiva and Bhairav on the auspicious day of Kalabhairav Jayanti to seek forgiveness for their sins.
- It is also believed that by worshipping Lord Kala Bhairav all the ‘Rahu’ and ‘Shani’ doshas can be nullified.
- Bhairava Ashtami is observed in Bhairav Prasad Temple in Vaishno Devi hills in Kashmir.
- In Varanasi, an eight-day pilgrimage of the eight temples dedicated to Ashta Bhairava, eight subsidiary aspects of Bhairava, is undertaken on the first eight days of the fortnight, culminating with Bhairava Ashtami.

Things to do :
- Devotees get up early and take a ritualistic bath to perform special pujas
- On this day Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi are worshipped.
- Devotees recite Kalabhirava Katha.
- On Kalabhairav Jayanti devotees keep vigil all night and narrate stories of Lord Kala Bhairav and Lord Shiva.
- Some devotees even keep strict fasting during the day on Kalabhairav Jayanti.
- Lord Kala Bhairav rides on a dog, in some regions dogs are also fed with Sweets and milk on this day.
- Special rituals are held on this day in Lord Kala Bhairav’s temples all across India.
