Hariyali Amavasya

 

  • Hariyali Amavasya is also called as Sravan Amavasya
  • It is celebrated in Shravan month as per the North Indian calendar
  • It comes a day after Sawan Shivratri after three days of Hariyali Amavasya Hariyali Teej is celebrated.
  • It is celebrated with great fervor as the festival of the rainy season, on this day Lord Shiva is worshipped with full devotion.
  • It is renowned in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.
  • In Maharashtra it is called Gatari Amavasya, in Andhra Pradesh as Chukkala Amavasya, and in Odhisa it is celebrated as Chitalagi Amavasya.
  • Devotees get up early and take a bath and male members of the family perform ancestral rites to their deceased family members.
  • People observe fast on this day.
  • Special pujas take place in Lord Shiva temples
  • In some areas People also worship the Peepal tree.
  • Grand fairs are also organized in different parts of India.
  • Performing Pitru Tarpan and Daan Punya activities are considered highly auspicious.
