Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple - Annavaram
Sree Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy Temple is
located in Annavaram Town in the Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh State.
This temple is devoted to Lord
Satyanarayana Swamy, a manifestation of Lord Vishnu, who is accompanied by Sri
Anantha Lakshmi, his female counterpart.
A unique feature of this temple is that the image of Lord Shiva is also enshrined left side of Lord Vishnu within the Sanctum.
Lord Satyanarayana Swamy is portrayed as a unique manifestation of all the three Gods in the Hindu pantheon in a single idol which is about 4 meters (13 feet) tall. The base of the lower portion represents Lord Brahma, the middle portion represents Lord Shiva and the top portion represents Lord Vishnu.
The Shrine resembles to Ratham or Chariot with four wheels at the four corners and the Chariot-shaped temple portrays the seven lokas.
The lord in the center depicts that he pervades the entire universe and the wheels represent the Sun and the Moon.
The complex houses a Sun Dial which was constructed in 1943 and displays the Indian Standard Time. This is very similar to the Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
The hillock itself is about 300ft above sea level, and about 460 well-laid stone steps lead to the temple.
The main temple was constructed in the form of a chariot with four wheels at each of the four corners.
In front of the main temple is the Kalyana mandapa, constructed and decorated with modern pieces of architecture.
This temple was built in Dravidian style. Gowri Kalyana Mandapam in front of the main temple constructed and decorated with modern pieces of architecture.
A Mandapam has also been constructed to provide space to conduct one thousand Satyanarayana Vratams at a time.
The temple is on two floors; the ground floor contains the yantra and the peetham of the Lord.
On the four sides of the yantra, there are four deities namely Ganapati, Suryanarayanaswamy, Bala Tripurasundari, and Maheswaraswamy which constitute panchayathanam.
The adjoining shrine of Sri Rama seems to be the holy spot where the original self-manifested idol of Sri Satyanarayanaswamy was discovered by the devotees.
Lord Sri Rama is considered to be the Kshetra Palaka of this holy abode of the Lord Satyadeva.
This temple was built in the Year 1891.
